Serving for 49 years, former machine operator Chui Tau Siong is now CEO

In a Straits Times feature about long-serving employees, Mr Chui Tau Siong provides a glimpse of his journey with Jebsen & Jessen Packaging. Over the past 49 years, Mr Chui has risen through the ranks – from his first job as a machine operator to now leading the company as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

In 1973, aged 17, Mr Chui came to Singapore from Malaysia looking for work. Once he alighted from the bus, he saw a job listing for Insulpack Industries (now Jebsen & Jessen Packaging) pinned on a board outside a factory. He walked in and got the job. Over the decades, Mr Chui was promoted from production worker to office assistant, salesman, general manager and eventually CEO in 1990.

Mr Chui expressed his gratitude for the trust the company and his mentors placed in him to make important decisions over the years, such as securing deals, exploring partnerships and expanding into the region. This strong support and culture, according to him, was the key to setting everyone up for success. “The major pro of staying was having opportunities to play increasingly active roles in business decision-making, watch the business grow, and learn from and share knowledge with my colleagues,” he shared. “The camaraderie of my team, colleagues, and a company that genuinely cared about its employees’ well-being were things I valued and kept me fulfilled.”
